Using colours:
Colours produce significant changes in our moods and help create a positive state of mind if we use them correctly. Twenty-five minutes of exposure to one particular colour affects us physically, mentally and emotionally. This in turn has an effect on our appetite, our body temperature, our muscle tone, our sense of time and our blood pressure.
Transform your bathroom into your own personal Day Spa and decorate it with pleasant, soothing colours: paint the walls in a warm yellow like the finca of your favourite resort, azure like the summer sky, or turquoise like the Mediterranean. In addition, use striking colours for accessories, flasks, boxes and towels. The strength of colours has a positive effect on body and soul.
As a generally rule, colours with a longer wavelength, like red, orange and yellow are more energizing. Darker colours tend to have a more relaxing effect.
Colours and their effects:
Yellow
The colour of optimism, lightness and cheeriness. Yellow is credited of stimulant properties, capable to put us in a positive mood. Yellow brings sunshine into a room and creates a sunny, positive atmosphere. It makes small rooms appear larger, energizes, relieves from bad temper and improves our mental activities. The colour yellow promotes concentration, makes learning easier and affects the memory positively. Yellow not only stimulates brain wave activity, it also promotes conversation.
Red
Red is the most dynamic and aggressive colour. It has an energizing effect on mind and body and a beneficial effect on manual work and exercise. Red in interior decoration can stimulate activating impulses. It should not be the dominating colour in areas in which you wish to rest and relax, because red is pure energy. This colour seams to invigorate the metabolism and stimulate the blood circulation. Be careful though; being in a room with too much red over a longer period of time can make you feel stifled, uneasy and irritable. Incidentally, red also stimulates the appetite, (just like orange); if you have weight problems, you should favour cyan or blue in the kitchen.
Green
Green has a soothing effect, relaxing mentally as well as physically and promoting feelings of peace, harmony and security. It gives the soul positive vibrations, waking the desire for new discoveries. Green is considered a source of creativity. A green room has a refreshing, vitalizing effect and a regenerating influence on the organism. Fresh, bright green - whether as a colour or as plants - should never be neglected.
